The other night I went out with Eric, the owner of this 1999 Honda Civic Si, to grab a few shots of his car fresh from the paint booths of Chaotic Creations.
While we were shooting the Si we got to talking about cars and how we got into the game, Eric’s story was a rather touching one which I asked if I could share here, he obliged. Eric has been a modded car fan for as long as he could remember, his memories start when he was a young lad going to hot rod shows with his family, he remembers the Turkey Rod Run in Daytona as being one of his favorite. As he grew up his interest waved from the hot rods of yesteryear to the imports and tuners every child dreamed of in 2001 when the first Fast and Furious installment was released.
It was shortly after in 2003 when Hot Import Nights made its annual stop in Orlando, after much convincing and begging Eric was able to convince his father to make the trek to Orlando for something other than Hot Rods. While walking the halls of the Orlando Convention Center Eric told his father that he wanted to have his own car in the HIN show one day.
Like any good father of a big dreamer Eric’s father, Derek, gave him a supportive pat on the back and said “you will son, one day, work hard and you will achieve your goals”. With that the fire was sparked, Eric set off on his journey of building a show stopper and neck breaker. Eric’s father was diagnosed with cancer; even though his father was ill he was still supportive of Eric’s dream. After a few failed attempts due to negligence of other drivers Eric finally came across this mint 1999 Si and started his build on paper. Derek lost his battle with cancer on May 15th, 2012; in following July the Civic was purchased bone stock and work began to transform it into this.
